Open Hands Furniture

The furniture project was launched in January 2010 after a 'gap' was identified in the provision of free furniture items for vulnerable and disadvantaged people within Leicester city, many of whom will have been provided with accommodation but may have little or no money to purchase essential furniture pieces for their homes.

Referring to our furniture project

Furniture is offered to those in need through referral only in our Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions. If you are an agency/organisation wishing to refer an individual or family in need to our services please email to request a referral form.

Please note that we rely upon donations of furniture and so may have limited quantities available at times. We would appreciate that you ensure that the person you refer has a genuine need of furniture and that you explain to them that we cannot guarantee that we will meet all of their furniture needs. (Please note that we are only able to give electric ovens to those who can arrange for a fully qualified electrician to fit them.)

Donating to our furniture project

Open Hands exists to help people in their most immediate and desperate of needs. The furniture items most often requested by those coming to Open Hands for help include: single/double beds, two-seater sofas, dining tables, dining chairs, chest of drawers, small single wardrobes, fridges, freezers, electric ovens, washing machines and microwaves. If you should have furniture items of this nature that you would like to donate please click here to fill in the online form.
